SKETCHBOOK

With inspiration flowing and the urge to pull out my watercolors... and all the amazing watercolor artists I have been seeing in blogsphere lately... I did some water color painting. It took me a bit to find all of my supplies, because you see... I stuff away some supplies and forget about them. Out of sight, out of mind. Isn't that the truth?

I was looking for my brush that had a well for water, with no luck. I dug through almost everything I owned... Meh, I think I will just have to buy another one. I can see the benefit it would have for travel. -- Anyway, I found all kinds of fun goodies in my crafty closet, things that I really had forgotten about. Quick little memories of shopping in South Korea popped into my head. Man, I really actually miss that place! Cheap art supplies, for real. Stickers and super cute stationary galore. I need to get back there one day.

Wow. It's been too long. Not sure if I am using the watercolors "right", but I had a great time playing with color.

The first thing I wanted to paint was a tea cup... I mean, all the cool kids are doing it... Tracey is really great. Her artwork really inspires me to create. It's true when they say the more you create the more creativity you have. And you can see that in so many people's blogs. I just wish I had the discipline to create constantly.

All I asked my mom for Christmas was a subscription to National Geographic Magazine. And it took FOREVER to get here. Yesterday, I got three magazines in one day. Dec 2012-Feb 2013. In the December magazine there was a really gorgeous photo of a Merlin (Hawk-type-bird), and it spoke to me. I was like, I need to paint that.

So I did...

I admit it kind of looks funny. But I actually really like it. With my OCD and feeling like things NEED to be perfect, it's really hard to draw sometimes. Honestly, I don't want to paint/draw 100% omg that doesn't even look like a painting. I want it to look like a painting, and I want it to have my own little flair to it. I do not want things to be a perfect replica of what I am looking at. I am really proud of this hawk-guy because it doesn't exactly look like the photo (which, I could do), I noticed that the eyes were too close together, and it was just kind of weird looking. But I LOVE it this way.

So, then I tried painting a chipmunk and... well it didn't go too well. Haha, practice I suppose!

I tried "fixing" it by using some black outlining. Nope. Haha. Ah well. I will have to try again sometime.

I started painting Hector the Cactus. :) It's going well, this one is a Work in progress. I am actually using some water color paper that I found deep in the crevasses of my crafty room/space/closet thing...

PS. I am painting in a *Scout Book, not a Moleskin! I wouldn't say that these Scout Books I have were made for watercolors. But they work fine for me. The pages are a bit thin, and it gets a bit wrinkly. But it's a great travel size! Anyway, Scout Books are really awesome and have great customer service! :)

Have you created anything lately? I would love to see!! Link up with the links below! :) Or just leave me a comment with the URL to your post! :)

  4. Your paintings are wonderful. I love watercolors but I can't do animals. Something about the fur I think. The chipmunk is darling. We don't have chipmunks here for some reason, just squirrels and a few rabbits.

    1. You know, I don't think I've ever seen a chipmunk here in Germany... I've only seen a squirrel ONCE. Was crazy to me, I saw squirrels and chipmunks all the time in Oregon!

  11. I think they are all gorgeous, love the hawk. You should paint more, your good. If you put gesso on moleskin pages, it will beef up the pages and watercolours do lovely things on gesso. Perfect is why we have cameras. Agree Tracey is a Cool kid...love her paintings. :)
